As-built plans are typically made up of a site plan, floor plans including level changes, wall placements and wall thickness, structural bearings, beam direction, mechanical locations, ceiling heights, window and door placements and exterior elevations. Basically, whatever exists in and around your home gets measured and noted on plans.
Why go through this trouble? You will need a sound basis for design purposes, which we also do, and to cost from when considering new structure, materials, spaces, styles, setbacks and future energy saving. You will also have to incorporate existing plans as part of your application and submittal when seeking a permit from the State, County or City planning review departments.
